The Walmart brand isn't just a way that we try to persuade people to shop with us (although that's important too). It's also a guide for how we intend to treat our customers and the people we work with, and that includes you.
In this course, you will get an overview of our brand philosophy and our associate value proposition. We want you to see the "beyond-the-paycheck" things that make Walmart such a great place to work. You will also have the opportunity to think about your own brand and make plans to revisit it over your first year.
There are a lot of different ways to make a living, so if you're working here, we want to make it count. Our opinion is that a job should always be worth more than its paycheck.
We're doing our level best to make that a reality every day, for every single associate. That effort is what we're referring to when we say, This is That Place. We also call it our Associate Value Proposition, or AVP for short. It's our answer to the question, "Why Walmart?" If we're doing our job right, you won't have to think long before answers of your own start coming to mind.
This is That Place is also the name of our associate brand.

- More generally, we encourage all leadership at Walmart to solicit and consider new and even brave ideas from every associate on their teams. Our aim is to make this a place where, if you see something you’re unsure about or have a suggestion, you’re welcome to say it.

We think you’ll find that Walmart is more than just a great place to work. It’s a place that’s happy, but never satisfied, where the drive for success is continuous for every individual and department throughout the country and around the globe.
What determines how someone experiences Walmart? Partly it's based on our advertising, signage, prices, and all the infrastructure that makes Walmart look and work like Walmart. But that's only half the story, probably less. People care about the people they run into, and that's where we have our greatest opportunity to make a difference in the world and make Walmart look good in the process.
In other words, Walmart's brand isn't just one brand – it's made up of all the personal brands of every associate in the company. What we're known for is based, in large part, on what each of our associates is known for.
