We hope you're enjoying your second week here. Please be sure to reach out to your leader if you have any questions.
In this course, you will think about how your team can navigate the organization based on its diversity and ability to influence others. Then you will present your ideas to your team to unite and reinvigorate everyone.
Use the things you’ve learned this week to identify unique characteristics of your team and how they can influence the organization.
Meet with each team member to understand the diverse experiences each person brings to the team. Every team member has something different to contribute.
Here are some questions to help you get started:
- Where did you grow up? What kind of experiences did you gain from your hometown?
- Do you enjoy traveling? If so, where is your favorite place to visit and why?
- What does your career path look like? What experiences have you gained across all the jobs you’ve had?
- What event has most shaped the way you think about the world around you? How has it impacted your lifestyle?
- What type of teams have you worked with in the past? What did you gain from those experiences?
- If you had to choose one life experience that had significant impact on you and the way you lead, what would it be and why?
- What energizes you at work? What drains you?
- What’s a new skill you’ve developed since you’ve been here? Was there anything you had to unlearn?
After you have thought about how your team can use their diverse skills to influence the organization, schedule some time to discuss with your leader about the approach you should take when building your presentation. Send your leader a draft of your presentation so they can review and be prepared to share feedback during your meeting. Also discuss how to partner with your leader during the presentation, including who will present each portion of the presentation.
Once you have finalized your presentation, schedule time for you and your leader to present it to the team.
You don't need to spend a lot of time preparing something, but you should use this as an opportunity to bond with your team and reinvigorate people who have been here for a while. Have fun and get to know everyone.
You can even make it interactive and ask them to contribute. For example, you might ask a team member to talk about something that they celebrate in their culture or even share a positive experience they had at work.
Here are some topics you might want to include:
- Unique communication skills on your team
- Cultural diversity and how it can promote inclusion
- ARGs and how the resources can promote inclusion
- Ideas to support each other in a safe workplace
