Representation through art

Award-winning illustrator and business owner Domonique Brown wanted to decorate her new home and noticed something missing from store shelves: art and home decor that represented her. 


“Growing up, there wasn’t a lot of Black art on the products you see in stores,” Dominique explains. “So I started making it myself.”


What started as a personal project quickly became something much bigger. In April 2020, Domonique took a risk. She quit her second job and opened her art design studio, DomoINK, right from her kitchen table. Her goal was simple yet ambitious: to design a variety of products that reflected the Black experience and put them on the shelves of retailers across the country. 


Since its inception, DomoINK has exploded in popularity. Domonique partners with major retailers like Walmart to offer a diverse range of artistic creations, from stylish wall art to bedding and home decor to hair products and designer T-shirts. 


Of course, a world-famous art studio needs ink, paint pens and canvases to allow its artists to fully explore their creativity—not to mention the shipping supplies required to pack hundreds of orders.
