Small Business Stories: Booker Parchment, Founder of Mr. Braxton Bar & Kitchen
Booker Parchment opened Mr. Braxton Bar & Kitchen in 2019, naming it after his youngest son. As a newcomer to the restaurant industry, Parchment was driven by a desire to create a space that catered to Black experiences, offering an American bistro menu with Latino and Jamaican influences. Although the challenges of running a restaurant were greater than anticipated, Parchment credits his team with helping him establish a warm, welcoming atmosphere for both socializing and business meetings.
Situated near Howard University, the restaurant has become a beloved neighborhood spot, with patrons viewing it as an extension of their homes. Parchment is committed to fostering a culturally rich environment, hosting live music five nights a week and offering workspaces for remote professionals. His vision for Mr. Braxton is to contribute to the cultural and economic growth of the community and his advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to remain authentic, focus on market needs and value the power of community connection.
