Jenny Jing Zhu, the Founder and Chairwoman of Lush Decor Home, reflects on her remarkable journey from a remote village in Shannon, China, to establishing a successful home textile company. Growing up without basic amenities and being the first girl from her village to attend high school, Jenny was inspired by a factory worker from a neighboring village who managed to start her own business. This inspiration sparked Jennyʼs determination to change her family’s future.
After moving to the United States in 1999 and studying home textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Jenny faced numerous challenges in her early career, including working through the 2008 financial crisis. Despite these obstacles, she took a bold leap to start her own business. Jenny was among the pioneers that shifted to e-commerce during the crisis, recognizing a significant market opportunity as traditional stores struggled. She highlights the unique challenges of being a female business owner and emphasizes the importance of finding a supportive network, sharing that her involvement with Enterprise Women was instrumental in overcoming burnout and fostering both personal and business growth. Looking ahead, Jenny is focused on evolving Lush Decor Home and continues to advocate for the value of community and mentorship for women entrepreneurs.
