Hotel Room Supplies: 7 Essentials Every Room Needs

The checklist for check-in

More and more, hotel guests are looking for personalized experiences that cater to their needs. Meeting those expectations is important, but don’t overlook basic hotel room supplies, too.

From what goes on the bed to what goes on their feet, here is a list of standard and even some boutique hotel room supplies you should consider when stocking your hotel.

Hotel room supplies

While there’s plenty of room for creativity when it comes to in-room amenities—Kimpton hotels used to provide live goldfish—there are nevertheless some staple hotel room supplies every room should have.

Bedding

A 2019 study by J.D. Power found that 78% of guests who experience better-than-average sleep will return to a property.

A good night’s sleep begins with a quality mattress. For extra cushiness, you can layer a mattress pad or cover on top. It’s not just for comfort: they also make the bed easier to clean.

When it comes to sheets, a high thread count isn’t what it used to be because some manufacturers use thinner threads to achieve higher numbers. Look for what the thread is made of. Sheets made with natural fibers will be more comfortable and breathable.

For the top layer, a plush duvet adds warmth and coziness.

A comfortable pillow rounds out the bedding experience. Pillows are available in a wide variety of softness and support, so consider offering guests pillow options either through the front desk or by stacking spares in the closet.

Entertainment

Even if guests don’t plan on spending a lot of time in their room, they will expect some entertainment options. For most hotel rooms, this starts with a TV

Whether your hotel is equipped with cable, satellite or a custom in-room entertainment service, you will want to offer guests multiple channel options. Subscribing to a hospitality TV provider lets guests watch movies on-demand.

For guests expecting boutique hotel supplies, you might consider differentiating your offering by offering a video game solution—especially if you cater to families.

Electronics

While a simple alarm clock used to be the most advanced piece of technology in a hotel room, these days, guests want more.

Since most guests will check in with a certain amount of tech already, you can elevate their in-room experience by providing ample ways to keep those devices charged. Lamps with integrated charging ports or dedicated device chargers and cables will help guests stay on top of their power needs.

As more guests become familiar with voice assistant AI technology, offering them a taste of home with a voice assistant can help your hotel stand out. You can also consider offering guests complimentary tablets that are connected to your hotel’s WiFi and already loaded with apps and games.

Coffee maker

While a coffee maker used to be relegated to “business” suites, they’re considered standard fare for any kind of traveler now.

You can go as complex or as simple as you like; for most rooms, a coffee maker that uses coffee pods (along with a supply of different coffee pods) will suffice. For the boutique experience, consider a single-cup coffee maker stocked with high-quality or locally-made coffee and teas.

Beverage supplies

Whether by ordering through room service, selecting an option from the mini-bar or bringing their own, most guests will eventually want to drink something in their room. Supply an ice bucket and one or two small glasses.

To upscale your beverage offering, you might consider a cocktail-making kit.

Bins

Your cleaning staff will thank you for not overlooking this one. Waste bins come in a world of colors, shapes and sizes, so finding one that fits your room’s decor should be a snap. Include one in both the bathroom and the main room, if space allows.

Iron

Traveling can be hard on clothes. Help your guests keep their outfits fresh with a clothes iron or a steamer
