New Upgrades To Empower the Organizations That Serve Our Communities
By Ashley Hubka, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Walmart Business | Julie Gehrki, Vice President, Philanthropy, Walmart and Walmart Foundation
Local organizations work tirelessly to make a difference. To do so, they have to manage operational challenges that take away from their ability to focus on their mission. At Walmart, we serve these organizations every day and recognize the distinct resources and support they need. This is why we are excited to introduce a series of enhancements to our Walmart Business and Spark Good platforms to reduce the day-to-day friction that local organizations face while they shop, fundraise and engage with their supporters.
Simplified purchasing for tax-exempt orgs
The latest Walmart Business innovation streamlines tax-exempt purchasing for eligible organizations. Now eligible organizations can apply for tax-exempt purchasing at Walmart Business and once approved, shop tax-exempt products both on the Walmart Business site and in store. Using the Walmart Business app, organizations can effortlessly apply their tax-exempt status to in-store purchases, all within the app’s intuitive interface. The feature extends to all users on the multi-user organizational account, making it easy to share the tax-exempt status for purchases. Plus, incorporating in-store purchasing into the Walmart Business app allows organizations to see all purchases, both in store and online, in their account.
To use the streamlined in-store tax-exempt purchasing, organizations simply need to download the Walmart Business app.
One-stop access for nonprofit and community resources
Walmart’s support for local organizations extends beyond simplifying purchases. Walmart Spark Good brings together Walmart’s community giving programs under one umbrella. Spark Good allows organizations to tap into our charitable resources such as local grants; a space tool that allows organizations to request space in front of our facilities; round up and registry which empower customers to donate funds or products to an organization of their choice when they shop on Walmart.com; and opportunities to engage our associates to give and volunteer.
We’ve listened to feedback from local organizations and schools who engage with these programs and made improvements to make it easier to access all our Spark Good programs, including:
- One entry point at Walmart.com/nonprofits and a new partnership with Deed allows organizations to get verified and engage with our charitable programs.
- A new Spark Good Associate platform makes it easier for organizations to engage with Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, allowing nonprofits to post volunteer opportunities and more.
- A new Spark Good Local Grants application developed by Walmart Global Tech provides a more user-friendly experience for organizations applying for funding from our Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centers.
We continue to work to reduce hassle and increase support for local organizations. Whether it’s making shopping easier and more affordable, supporting local organizations with grants or helping them connect to new supporters, our goal is to continue to innovate, so organizations can focus on making a difference in their communities.
Organizations can get started with Spark Good at Walmart.com/nonprofits.
