Sensitization: Sensitization sessions for the core team members. Educated associates on etiquette to follow when interacting with People with Visual Disabilities through interactive games where we asked associates to walk across a familiar floor/aisle blindfolded. We had other associates type their names or the Walmart values blindfolded. ​


Creating Awareness: ​​

 

  • Sensitizing associates about aspects that we take for granted in our routine life. These are different for a person with visual disability.​

 

 

  • ​Created awareness on etiquettes, do’s and don’ts for People with Visual disabilities during the launch event. We conducted experiential games at the official launch of wCare to create awareness on the needs for People with Visual Disabilities. ​

To commemorate the ‘International Week of the Deaf’ (celebrated in the last week of September every year globally), the wCare ARG launched the Walmart Global Tech Identity in ASL (American Sign Language). Besides, wCare also spearheaded:

  • Actioning on Facilities Audit: Partnering with the Facilities team to enable infrastructure support and ensure our office is accessible for all. ​
  • Leverage PwD audit for Reasonable Accommodation​Representation of IDC at external events / partnership with inABLE​
  • Sponsorship of Industry events focused on PwD, Exchange of Ideas​
  • Conducting both internal and external events on industry best practices in the new work format. ​
  • Leveraging tools for greater inclusion (Sign Language Course / Zoom​ transcripts)​
  • Enablement of caregivers in the new way of working​
  • Spark-Assessor e-learning module – inputs on interviewing guidelines for PwD​
  • Building online resources/repository for awareness/education​

NGO Kiosks: NGOs supporting people with disabilities set up kiosks with merchandise for sale at Aura and PW.​

  • Manager sensitization and readiness​
  • Associates with disability hired across all locations at IDC

Audit on People with Disabilities: Worked with the HR Ops team on modalities of the audit. In addition to compliance requirements, it also paved the way to pass Tax related benefits to eligible associates. ​
