Office-based work with flexibility
Being on campus can be a wonderful thing, such as welcoming a new hire or collaborating, and is an important part to our culture. But in other cases, it will be totally acceptable to work from home on certain days or parts of days.
Working flexibly is something the majority of us do every day. This could be working from another campus location for periods within the day. Flexibility simply means you’re using the technology we have at Walmart to work where you’re most productive based on the need at that time.
Open communication and respect will be key. Talk with your manager to discuss what you may need based on your personal circumstances and the needs of the business.
Hourly associates are eligible to work flexibly and should follow on-the-clock work requirements. Working flexibly does not change time-management and reporting requirements for hourly associates. For additional guidance, refer to the Associate Pay and/or Rest Breaks, Meal Periods & Days of rest policies for your work location.
Guidance for Managers
We want to see teams working a majority of the time on campus, while embracing flexibility that accommodates various time zones, schedules, and individual and business needs. When managing a team in which not everyone is onsite at the same time, you will need to address the different needs of team members.
What is at the core of our approach is a common set of principles and enabling managers to work with their teams on where, when and how work is being done:
- We are first and foremost committed to the health, safety and well-being of our associates.
- We believe that being together in our campus offices help us shape our culture, collaborate, innovate, and build relationships.
- We want to provide a healthy amount of flexibility to aid productivity as well as to retain and attract great associates.
While flexibility will look different across Walmart, it should always fall within manager discretion or formal approval needed:
