Time Away From Work Resources for US-based Global Tech

Walmart understands that when it comes to taking time off from work, we all have different needs. That's why we offer a modern, flexible approach through our Time Away from Work Programs. There are four key programs offered:

  1. Paid time off (PTO)
    • FlexPTO (salaried)
    • Hourly PTO
  2. Holiday pay for hourly associates
  3. Disability programs for your own disabling condition
    • Short-term disability
    • Long-term disability
  4. Pay for when you need to be away to care for family
    • Parental and family care pay (salaried)
    • Parental pay (hourly)

Holiday Time Off


Our Paid Time Off Policy provides associates with the flexibility to use PTO for the holidays they wish to celebrate. In addition, hourly associates in eligible locations receive Holiday Pay* for certain holidays.


Here’s what you need to do if you want to take off and receive pay for the holidays of President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Associates who wish to take off other holidays that are important to them will need to request time off from their manager and use PTO to get paid.

  Taking Off Getting Paid
Hourly eligible for Holiday Pay* You'll need to request time off from your manager Eligible associates who take holidays off will receive Holiday Pay, and those who work on days holidays are observed will receive both their hourly pay and Holiday Pay. If a holiday falls on a weekend, eligible associates will receive Holiday pay for the weekday closest to the actual holiday.
Hourly not eligible for Holiday Pay You’ll need to request time off from your manager You’ll need to use PTO to get paid.
Salaried receiving FlexPTO You’ll need to request time off from your manager FlexPTO will cover your day off.
Salaried receiving PTO grant You’ll need to request time off from your manager You’ll need to deduct a day from your annual PTO grant.

 * Associates who are unsure whether their location is eligible for Holiday Pay should speak with the People Partner.
