Influencer Connects to Customers with Walmart Wins

Find out how this customer and influencer creates social content that connects and engages.

Ask Melissa of @Walmart.Wins what it’s like to be a social media influencer with more than 50,000 followers. She’ll laugh and say, “It’s just me being me!”

And she’s right: Her success on social is all about her authenticity and relatability. As a customer, she knows what other customers want.

She shares her top tips so you can give customers what they’re looking for, too.

"Be your authentic self, and people will respond."

Bring Surprise and Delight

Walmart has everything you could ever need and so many things you wouldn’t expect. Find the pieces that excite you as a customer and share them on social. People love knowing they can get fashion and décor at Walmart prices!

Put on Your Customer Lens

Think about what you want in your home and your life. If you love a shatterproof glass because your kids can’t break it, share that! Make it an experience for yourself, and that joy will come through.

Make It Easy

I always want to style my posts so people can see what that item might look like in their life. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how it would play out after you take it home, so I try to help. Remove clothes from the hanger and try them on! People are busy: Visually, you can help them close the loop and make their decision easier.

Boast Your Brands

I have come to love and trust so many Walmart brands because of what they bring to my home and family. Pioneer Woman, Time and Tru, and so many others have amazing products at prices that let us save for our future without sacrificing comfort or style today. Be proud of those brands, share them, and tag them in your posts!

Connecting on Social

Be Honest

People really value an honest opinion. For example, with clothing, when you try on an outfit, ask yourself, “Is it comfortable? Do I like how I look?” If it wasn’t right for you, tell people why. It’s OK to not love everything. People use that honesty to inform their own decisions.

Be Consistent

I’m a mom of three, so I use routine as much as possible to keep up with things. I’ll go into the store once a week for one to two hours and get enough content for the next seven to 10 days. I post daily, usually at the same time each day, and respond to comments throughout the day.

Be Yourself

I haven’t been anything but myself, and that certainly hasn’t harmed my page. Be your authentic self on social—and in stores—and people will respond. Having your own unique style gives people an opportunity to connect with you on a human level.
