W-4 Exempt Status Expiration

Action Required: Federal and State-specific W-4 Exempt Status Expiration

Associates who wish to claim exempt from federal and/or state withholding taxes in 2020 must submit new forms for the 2020 tax year. Exempt status claimed on the 2019 Federal Form W-4 will expire on Feb. 17, 2020.

 

Key Information

  • Associates who claimed “exempt” for 2019 and have not submitted a new online Form W-4 for 2020 prior to Feb. 26, 2020, will have their exempt status reset to single with no other adjustments.
  • All filing status changes will be reflected on the associate’s March 5, 2020, payroll payment.

 

State-Specific Information

In addition to the Federal Form W-4, associates in the states listed below who are eligible and wish to claim exempt from state withholding taxes in 2020, must submit new forms for the 2020 tax year.

  • Associates who claimed “exempt” for 2019 and have not submitted a new state online Form W-4 for 2020 prior to Feb. 26, 2020, will have their exempt status reset to single with no other adjustments.
  • All filing status changes will be reflected on the associate’s March 5, 2020, payroll payment.
