Tips & Tricks for Going Back to School Online

When it comes to going back to school online, there’s a lot of misinformation out there, which makes the whole process seem intimidating. Fortunately, the online learning opportunities offered through Live Better U — Walmart’s education benefits program — are built with the needs, schedules, and goals of working adults in mind and have years of successful outcomes to show for it.

Don’t just take our word for it, though. Meet Dhanesh, a Pharmacy Manager at Store 2141 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the People and Business Leadership Certificate program at Bellevue University. Before he started with Live Better U, Dhanesh had some doubts — so he was thrilled to find that going to school online was flexible, engaging and supportive.

“I know a lot of people who would want a better education and a better life, and there is no better platform than to get into a program like this with Live Better U and Guild...and kind of strap your boots and get going,” Dhanesh said.

Watch the video above to see how Dhanesh handled going back to school online, what his expectations were, and how he overcame his fears.

Want more tips and tricks for tackling online school? Here are a few to get you started:

TAKE TIME to establish why you want to return to school. Write down your reasons & post them somewhere you’ll see every day.
Don’t take on too much, too fast. Only take as many classes as you can handle — it’s perfectly acceptable (& common!) to take one class at a time.
Plan in advance & stay organized. Write down your assignment deadlines in your calendar or a planner, especially if you are taking more than one class at a time.
Snag spare bits of time for studying. Your lunch break, your commute, and your kid's naptime all make for perfect opportunities to crack open your (virtual) textbook.
PROOFREAD everything. Online school requires frequent writing in discussion board posts, emails, and more, so make sure to write like you would in a cover letter.
REACH OUT to your classmates and form a study group on an online chat or video conferencing platform. You can also contact your education coach (another perk of Live Better U!) to get help finding a study buddy.
Connect with your course instructors to say hello, ask questions, or get supportCheck your syllabus for communication guidelines or ask your instructor how they’d prefer to be contacted. Or just email them — don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it!
