  • Thanks for meeting with me today about some changes happening in the club.
  • To serve our members even better, we know we must continue investing in you – our associates.
  • We’re committing to retaining and hiring the best associates. To do so, we’re working to provide the right training and tools, ensuring more consistent schedules, and a ladder of opportunity in every club.
  • Today, I’d like to share with you how we’re taking this another step further.

Team Lead Pay

  • First, let’s talk about pay. Our Team Leads play a very important role, and we want to make sure we have the best talent in those jobs. So, we’re increasing the minimum starting pay for Team Leads to at least $18 an hour, or more depending on the position.
  • If you’re a Team Lead making less than that right now, you’re getting a raise.
  • This pay change takes effect starting Saturday, June 22, and will show up in paychecks starting July 11.
  • Keep in mind that this is just your base pay, and any SamShare payout is on top of that.
  • If you’re getting an increase, I’ll be meeting with you individually in the next few days, so we can go over the details and answer any questions at that time.

 

Fresh Training

  • Next, let’s talk Fresh.
  • Fresh is a critical piece of our business and our future success.
  • With more than 90 percent of our members buying fresh from us, we’re continuing to make investments in our Fresh associates in ways that will help us provide the best service for our members.
  • So, we’re changing up almost everything about our training and introducing a new comprehensive, hands-on Fresh training program.
  • If you’re a Fresh Assistant Manager, Team Lead, or certain specialized role (Meat Cutter, Baker, Prepared Food Associate and Cake Decorator), you’ll be going off-site with your teammates for a multi-day group training experience. As the Club Manager, I’ll also be attending the training.
  • Expect it to be intensive and hands-on. You’ll learn new skills, build your knowledge of Fresh and you’ll probably even have some fun.
  • This replaces the current Fresh Certification program. And we’ll run a refresher training every year so you can keep up to speed.
  • Training will take place over the next few months. As dates are finalized, I’ll let you know.

 

Other Investments

  • Now, I’d like to remind you of a couple of things we’ve already announced that are going into effect now.
  • The first is the new work groups and block scheduling.
  • I want to appreciate you for how hard you’ve worked the last several weeks to get prepared for these changes by participating in the Quickstart and continuing skills training.
  • I know this a new way of working but I ask that each of you to step out of your comfort zone, help out your fellow associates and embrace this change because I’m confident it will help us serve our members even better.
  • Finally, a reminder that you’re officially a Plus member starting this Thursday! Besides all the other benefits of membership, this upgrade lets you earn cash rewards when you shop at Sam’s, gets you free shipping at SamsClub.com, and includes members-only discounts.
  • Let’s use this as an opportunity to fully understand the benefits so we can better talk to our members about why they should be Plus, as well.
  • Let’s see if we can be #1 in our region for upgrades this month.

 

Wrap Up

  • To sum up: Team Leads are getting a minimum pay increase; Fresh training is getting a makeover; new work groups and block scheduling are taking effect, and everyone’s getting a membership upgrade to Plus.
  • These are just the latest steps in an ongoing journey as we become an even better place to work and provide an amazing shopping experience, so expect more news in the future.
