Q. What changes are taking place in the club today?

A. A new, cross-functional backroom role has been created, replacing the four current positions. This will result in the current Backroom associates being displaced. If these associates are eligible, they can apply for one of the new positions.

If the associates are determined to be ineligible, or do not want to be considered for the new roles, they will have 45 days to find another role in the company.

Q. Why are these changes being made?

A. Last year, we announced Sam’s Club’s three strategic pillars - People, Product and Digital - with a maniacal focus on simplification. This focus has given us a clear direction and guided where we invest our time and resources. A part of the club where we haven’t invested in a long time is our back rooms, so earlier this year our team looked at receiving processes from end to end. Through this work, we found we have had many outdated processes that are manual and time consuming for our associates. We rolled out the Receiving Scheduler app and Receiving and Claims app and associates are now able to work faster and more efficiently. With the new processes and tools available, this allowed us to re-think how we staff this area of the club.

Q. What does the new cross-functional backroom role look like?

A. A team of cross-functionally- trained associates will work together to receive merchandise, process claims, and more.

Q. Can anyone apply to the new roles?

A. All current Backroom associates who are determined to be eligible will be allowed to interview in a closed pool for the roles, meaning they will receive preference for them. If there are roles that are not filled from current associates, then we will open-up the opportunity to both internal and external candidates.

Q. How were associates determined to be eligible/ineligible for the new Backroom Associate position?

A. We’ve conducted a fair and consistent review of talent within current roles considering performance and the future capabilities of the business.

Q. Are there changes going to be made to night receiving roles?

A. No, these changes will only impact day receiving roles.
