Q: How will each associate be placed into a work group?
A: Associates will be placed in a work group based on their current job code.
Q: What are the work groups?
A: Associates will be aligned to one of four work groups: Member Services, Merchandise Services, Fresh Services and Specialty Services.
Q: What will each work group do during each shift?
A: Associates will now be expected to work as a team across multiple areas of the club versus working in a specific location based on job code. For example, we will no longer have an associate assigned just to self-checkout or just to the Member Services Desk. A Self-Checkout associate will now be part of the Member Services work group and be cross-trained to work in all front end roles.
Q: What areas should associates be cross-trained in, going forward?
A: Associates will be required to be cross-trained in all job duties, responsibilities and functions within his/or current work group. For instance, if a Merchandiser would be expected to cross-train in Jewelry, Apparel, TEO and more.
Q: Who will conduct the cross-training?
A: Back in November, Club Managers were asked to identify a minimum of eight (8) associates to conduct cross-training. These same “Training Sponsors” should continue to conduct additional cross-training, as needed. For additional information on cross-training, please review the Cross-Training Toolkit.
Q: Can I get cross-trained outside of my work group?
A: Associates can request to cross-train in other work groups once they are proficient in their current work group and will need to work with their manager to schedule time to do this.
Q: Will Leads be cross-trained within each of the workgroups?
A: Yes, each Lead within the workgroup will be cross-trained across all areas in their work group.
Q: How will I know what I should be doing when I come in to work - especially if it isn’t my normal scheduled time?
A: All work groups will have a routine that specifies what general work should be done during that block of time.
Q: There are people cross-trained across more than one work group. For example - MSS helps cover for breaks and lunches in a different work group/or secondary coded in a separate work group. Will associates be able to take shifts or cover across work groups if they are already trained?
A: The goal is for each work group to be able to sustain itself. If you are trained in more than one work group and a business need is present, then yes, you can cover a shift in a different work group as long as you are proficient in the initial tasks required.
