Proud Jason celebrates daughter Chelsie’s Olympic success

As the Olympic spirit sweeps the nation, Coventry judoka Chelsie Giles has spoken of her delight after winning Team GB's first medal - and says her dad Jason Venson, who works on nights at our Lutterworth depot, is probably in tears!

The student got the nation on the medal board with a stellar performance in the 52kg women's judo - and had her brother and training partner Josh with her in Tokyo to cheer her on.

Chelsie, who’s ranked 10th in the world, overcame Switzerland's Fabienne Kocher to win the bronze medal, who herself had taken bronze at the world championships in Budapest earlier this year

Speaking after winning the bronze medal, Chelsie said: “It feels very special to do it in Japan, it’s an amazing arena, the atmosphere was amazing and to do it where judo started makes it extra special. With my best performance I know I can beat some of the top players and today’s performance showed that.”

Most of her family members were stuck in the UK, including dad Jason, but she was being cheered on by brother and training partner Josh, and Chelsie spoke to her father immediately after winning and added “I think my dad’s probably been crying”.

Well done Chelsie from all of us at Asda!
