Celebrating more of our amazing colleagues!

Wow - what a fantastic week we've had celebrating and thanking each other for everything you have done over the past few months. We know that our colleagues make the difference and after the past few days of story sharing, it's clearer than ever to see why.

Well done to everyone who has been celebrated and thank you to those who have shared a message - there have been hundreds! If you've not seen your nomination shared, don't worry, as we said yesterday each and every one of Our Asda Heroes and Thank You Week nominees will be put forward to the Proud to be Asda Awards. The nominated colleagues will be receiving a card to let them know over the next couple of weeks.

The recognition for everything we've done is not just coming from our colleagues -  we've been sharing some amazing stories about you on our social medial channels and the shares, likes and positive comments of appreciation from our customers have been pouring in! And that's not to mention the hundreds of emails and letters that have been sent to us too.

So, to end the week, here are some more of your fantastic messages:

Lynsey Mitchell - Home Office

The fiance of Regional Compliance Manager Lynsey Mitchell got in touch to recognise everything she's done over the past few months.

"Lynsey, along with countless others I'm sure, has had to transform her role entirely. From dealing with pest issues and shop walks, to reported Positive COVID-19 cases and sadly colleague deaths.

"It's really taken its toll on Lynsey emotionally as you can imagine. But this hasn't stopped her getting up every morning, putting a brave face on and doing the right thing by her colleagues and customers. She's put personal relationships aside in the name of supporting Asda - and vehemently backed the great things your store colleagues are doing!"

Steve and Sue - Leamington store

Sue and Steve have been cheering their shielding neighbours up - and have thought of an innovative way to mow their lawn!

A customer has got in touch to thank Sue and Steve at our Leamington store.

In the message, Steve and Sue are described as "local legends" as they've been checking in on the customer's mum and dad every week and dropping off any shopping they might need as both are shielding.

In addition, Sue and Steve have been spending time talking to the couple and cheering them up, and Steve's even put an extension lead on his lawnmower so he can come over the road and cut their grass.

Fiona Tweedy - Gosforth Wansbeck Road SM

Fiona's demonstrated our Leading Asda Qualities at a time when her colleagues needed her the most!

"I would like to thank my fresh section leader Fiona Tweedy. Fiona has really gone above and beyond during the last few weeks, including working every weekend to cover cash office for a colleague who needed to self-isolate.

"She has cancelled holidays to cover shifts and has demonstrated every Leading Asda Quality and really needs a special thank you."

Daryl Peers - Radcliffe store

Thank you Daryl for supporting your colleagues - and their families!

"Throughout the whole pandemic we have had amazing colleagues that have worked tirelessly to serve our customers in the safest possible way and I wish I could nominate all of them to repay their commitment, but Andy has gone above and beyond.

"Andy works on the bakery department, which means his shift starts at 6am. Despite starting early and having home commitments, Andy offered to work a full week of split shifts to help the store as colleagues were having to self-isolate.

"Andy maintained his high standards on the bakery counter from 6am until 3pm, went home to walk his dog and then returned to work for a 5pm til 11pm shift on ambient for a week.

"Andy truly showed that week that not all heroes wear capes!"

Zac Edmonds - Sheffield store

Super-Zac has been sleeping in his camper van so he can support his colleagues.

"I'd like to nominate Zac Edmonds at our Sheffield Handsworth store. During the disruption, Zac has stepped up from his role as production manager and covered other areas, in particularly the people function.

"He co-ordinated the recruitment of over 30 temps, including bringing them into store, training, pay queries, extensions of contracts and leaving.

"In addition to this he has gone above and beyond as he has moved out of home and into a camper van in his garden as his father is classed as extremely vulnerable so that he could continue to work and support his store.

"This is just who he is and the level of commitment he displays on a daily basis."

Dez Pearson - North East Clothing depot

Dez has recently become a dad for the first time - but he still wanted to be there to support his colleagues!

"I would really like to thank Dez Pearson for acting so selflessly and for the support he has given the transport management team at North East Clothing depot.

"Just before lockdown, Dez became a Dad for the first time, welcoming Bradley Pearson. Dez had pre-arranged to take his paternity leave followed by holiday so that he could have quality time with his newly extended family.

"However, when Dez learnt that a member of the transport team was shielding and another had started their paternity leave, he cancelled 10 days of his leave so that he could support.

"This was precious time that Dez was going to be with his family, but instead he sacrificed this for work and we are all extremely grateful and really don’t know what we would have done without him."

Sona Nehra - Hyson Green

The patient's family have been overwhelmed with gratitude for Sona.

All of our optical team have done a fantastic job over the last few weeks, continuing to stay open and do the right thing for our customers. A big thank you to Sona Nehra, Optometrist at our Hyson Green store, who picked up on an issue with a patient after they had initially been advised that everything was OK.

The patient's family have been overwhelmed with gratitude towards Asda for seeing their daughter and getting her the life-saving treatment she so needs.

Well done and thank you Sona!

alt

Dawn Holloway - Erith CDC

Dawn's knowledge and caring nature has meant lots to newly appointed General Manager Adam.

"I would like to thank Dawn Holloway for her contribution during the COVID-19 Crisis.

"Dawn is our People Community Administrator and has been with the site since it opened. She always has a conscientious and caring approach and this really has gone to new heights over the last 12 weeks. Whether it be support with friends and family recruitment, celebration or general support for our business, colleagues and process – Dawn has been there for all of us and has held the depot together through this difficult time.

"I am new to the team but can clearly see how valuable Dawn is to our depot, we don’t know what we would do without her!"

Dean Parker - Long Eaton store

GSM Dean has supported his colleagues - and they're really grateful!

We had an Asda Ace who sadly passed away with confirmed COVID-19, and her partner also works at the store.

"This colleague was grieving and had to isolate which meant he wasn’t able to do any shopping. Without any thought or hesitation, Dean did some shopping and paid for it out of his own pocket and then made sure it was delivered to him.

"Dean has supported our colleagues and kept up their spirits through these uncertain times."

Angela Edwards - Park Royal store

Angela's supporting her store and building on her skills at the same time.

"I would like to thank Angela Edwards at Park Royal. Angela has always worked in back office but when she saw departments struggling with absence, she stepped up and very quickly learned about different areas of the store so she could support.

"Angela managed PPE for our store, including making sure the correct amount was handed out and in time to all. She took charge of wider admin function which in turn helped our admin manager to do a bigger duty role on the shopfloor.

"Thank you Angela."

Andy Black - Mill Lane store

Colleagues at our Mill Lane store have been exceptional, but Andy has gone above that!
